Should I go see a Chiropractor or a Physiotherapist?

Have you ever asked yourself; should I go see a Chiropractor or a physiotherapist? The two professions may seem similar but there is lot of variation between the two.

In general Chiropractors work to correct or prevent injury by restoring the function of the body’s DR. JENNIFER DICKIESONnervous system.  Chiropractors do this by adjusting the joints of the spine to relieve any pressure on the bodies nervous system. Improved nerve function means that the body is better equipped to fix itself. Chiropractic treatment usually involves gentle adjustments of the spine, corrective exercise, and lifestyle advice.  Chiropractors see a lot of conditions related to the spine because the are considered spinal care experts. Common injuries normally treated by chiropractors include low back pain, disc herniation, back stiffness, neck pain, whiplash and headaches or migraines. Chiropractors also see people who aren’t in any pain but who want to move better, preform better and prevent spinal arthritis.

Physiotherapy, like chiropractic, aims to improve your health and wellbeing. Physiotherapists are often referred to as movement specialists and aim to help your joints and muscles work to their full potential. They often give exercise programs to patients to improve mobility, and will also use massage, stretching, ultrasound  and mobilization.

Physiotherapists often treat individuals after joint replacement surgeries and even heart surgeries. They also treat  sports injuries & repetitive strain injury (RSI). They will use a range of physiopracticeaids such as crutches and wheelchairs to help improve movement and mobility.
